C is for Crochet

  Crochet VS. Knitting.

What do you like better?  I think it's moot.  I like both.  Knitting produces a nice drapey fabric and is soothing to work on.  Crochet is quicker and can easily be shaped all sort of ways.  Many times I combine the two by knitting a piece and then edging it in crochet.

The other day I was perusing books in a yarn shop and I overheard the shop owner tell a customer "I loathe crochet.  I call it crotch it cause it's so ugly.".  When I went to check out she asked me "Do you knit or crochet?"  I told her I do both but I prefer crochet.  Her response :"Hmphf."    I thought that was so odd of her to alienate half her customer base.

  1. I like to crochet, I am too stupid to knit. It is like two needles...woah I mean hold your horses you know :)

Maybe I should practice more. But crochet things look really pretty too, there is amazing stuff, we need to educate her.

  2. Wow~ she really had not idea she was killing her business, did she? I love to crochet, and learned it about 70 years ago. My mom taught me how. Lately, I am more a quilter and haven't used a crochet hook in quite some time. She also was a quilter and did hers by hand: I do mine on a sewing machine. Thanks for the very interesting read. Best regards to you and your really neat crocheting. Ruby

    1. I always want to quilt but I don't find it as portable as crocheting. But I admire other people's quilts

  3. I'm a crochet girl myself, tried knitting but I find it slower and harder than crochet. I'm self taught too so it must be easy if I can do that. I love the hearts in your photo ~ how ever did you do that?

    1. The heart in the middle is knitted and the hearts on either side are crocheted. The pom pom is heartshaped tho it's not easy to see in the picture. I was looking for the best way to make a heart.

  4. I like crocheting also but have not had much practice with patterns or anything. I'd love to have you link this and any other of your lovely posts to What to do Weekends Party. Best wishes, Linda

  5. I love to crochet! I think knitting makes a smoother more delicate creation but I have seen some Absolutly beautiful crochet. I have never been able to knit. Crochet has been my favorite past time. Come on over to my place and see some of my projects. I have an Etsy shop too!!!! www.lifeawayfromtheofficechair.blogspot.com

  7. Like you of the two I prefer crochet, but really prefer sewing and quilting. I like the look of both crochet and knitting, but like someone said, two needles? Actually, I can knit, it's just getting them off the needles. Please don't try to explain, I'd rather others do the crocheting and knitting and I'll do the sewing and quilting. Everyone wins. :) There are quilt store owners that way too. I don't understand it either.

  8. I like quilting too but tho I've cut out the pieces for them, I never get around to sewing them together let along quilting. The only one I ever finished was a baby quilt that you had to embroider all these squares that were of various nursery rhyme characters. Then I had to add more fabric around the edges and I think I just did a running stitch for the quilting. I think I'll dig it out and use it for my q is for quilting post.

  9. I love crochet and am pretty obsessive about it. I can knit worth two hoots, not sure why but I would love to. I think it's awesome that you combine the two! Odd about the shop owner and rather rude too- just because she doesn't like it. Oh well.

New follower- I look forward to more of your A-Z! :)
